COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
_____ English 100 An introduction to those aspects of reading and writing necessary for college-level literacy. Student swill write weekly and revise papers extensively in order to develop and understanding of (and appreciation for) the methods and purposes of revision and an ability to shape essays and frame arguments in effective and convincing ways. Student must prepare a Final Portfolio that proves they are ready to meet the demands of English 101. Required of those students who have not passed the writing portion of an assessment, but also available to anyone who may desire additional preparation before enrolling in English 101. May not be used to satisfy and degree requirement. Students placed in English 100 must make a grade of "C" or higher before they can enroll in English 101. English 100 is based on a departmental requirement and is not directly related to TSI.

_____ English 110 A course designed to help students work through the various reading and writing projects assigned in their writing-intensive courses. Students work in small groups with a peer tutor in order to sharpen their abilities to read the imperatives of a given writing or reading project/situation and shape their discourse to successfully address these imperatives. Much emphasis is placed on the important ways that the reading or writing process used must take into account the writing or reading task at hand. Required of those students who have not passed the reading portion of an assessment and those needing additional assistance following English 100, but also available to anyone who may desire supplemental assistance following English 101, 102, or other writing-intensive courses. May not be used to satisfy and degree requirement.

_____ English 101  College Reading and Writing: English 101 introduces students to writing as an extended, complex, recursive process and prepares students for English 102, which more rigorously examines the forms and structures of argument and means to approaching multiple audiences. In 101 students will write weekly, and will work on essay organization and development. The course will emphasize close reading, summarizing, and analysis of expository texts, including student writing. Satisfies Basic Skill and University Studies requirements.

_____ PJCM 306 Elementary Arithmetic - taught on Commerce campus by Paris Junior College instructors (From paris Junior college Catalog) Skill Development in Math - Designed to help students acquire the basic math skills prerequisite to a successful college experience. Includes and intensive testing program designed to identify areas of specific need and to facilitate individualized instruction (May not be used to satisfy degree requirements) May be repeated. Tuition and fees for this course are not included on the Texas A&M University-Commerce bill. PJC classes are paid direction to Paris Junior College and must be paid in a timely manner or the student will be withdrawn from entire class load for the semester. May not be used to satisfy any degree requirements.

_____ PJCM 300 Beginning Algebra - taught on Commerce campus by Paris Junior College instructors (from Paris Junior College course description) Elementary Algebra - Topics covered normally include: Real numbers, linear equations and inequalities, ratio and proportion, multiplication and division of polynomials, factoring and rational expressions. (May not be used to satisfy degree requirements) Must take LSK 013 as a required lab. (Students whose parent institution is Texas A&M University-Commerce are excluded for this requirement.) Tuition and fees for this course are not included on the Texas A&M University-Commerce bill. PJC classes are paid directly to Paris Junior College and must be paid in a timely manner or the student will be withdrawn from entire class load for the semester. May not be used to satisfy any degree requirement.

_____ MATH 131 Intermediate Algebra - May not be used to satisfy any mathematics or degree requirements. Basic algebraic operations, equations and inequalities, polynomials, functions, rational expressions, exponents and radicals, quadratic equations, graphing and geometry in the plan, sequences and series. This course is to prepare students for further study at the level of college mathematics.

_____ TUTORING 101 - Writing; 102 - Reading; 103 - Math - Must participate in tutoring session 12 hours during the semester enrolled. May not be used to satisfy any degree requirement.
