CONGRATULATIONS — A&M-Commerce President Keith McFarland (left) presents a certificate to Dr. Glenn P. Fournet recognizing him as a Professor Emeritus of Psychology. Fournet taught at A&M-Commerce for 33 years and served 10 years as head of the department of psychology and special education.

Dr. Glenn P. Fournet, retired psychology professor, department head, and scholar, has been honored by A&M-Commerce. Fournet has received the title of Professor Emeritus of Psychology for his 33 years of distinguished service to A&M-Commerce. This A&M-Commerce faculty member, who retired in December 1999 and now lives near Cedar Creek Lake in the Athens area, was honored at a ceremony held Sept. 6 at the University. Attending the ceremony were Fournet’s wife, Ruby, other family members, and several colleagues and friends from the University. In presenting a framed certificate signifying this recognition approved for Fournet by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents last July, A&M-Commerce President Keith McFarland said, “The reason we are here today is to honor a person who has been very good to this University over the decades. He was truly a person who covered the gamut of what is expected of a faculty member.” McFarland noted that Fournet was an “effective” teacher at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also was a scholar who did research, wrote articles accepted for publication in professional journals, and made numerous presentations at professional conferences. Fournet was also a successful administrator who served 10 years as a department head and also spent two years as director of Independent Studies, now known as the Honors Program, McFarland continued. Fournet’s contributions to the University also included organizing the International Studies Program and serving five years as coordinator of Special Academic Programs, three years as director of the Psycho-educational Clinic, and three years as clinic co-director. Also paying tribute to Fournet were Dr. Paul Zelhart, current head of the department of psychology and special education; Dr. Harry Fullwood, a faculty member in the Greenville for at least 20 years.

He was clinic supervisor at the council from 1968 to ’90 and a longtime member of the organization’s board of directors. This organization is now known as the Crossroads Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Fournet’s wife, also retired, earned all three of her degrees from A&M-Commerce. She was a graduate assistant in the A&M-Commerce department of home economics who went on to teach at the University of North Texas for five years. She also taught in the Quinlan Independent School District.
