A
week’s worth of activities and events is planned for this year’s
Homecoming 2000 Celebration. The theme is “The Year of the Lion.”
Starting
on Monday, there are the campus decorating events and “Star Trek-The
Final Frontier-Where Academics and
Sci-Fi Meet” lecture in the history department and on Tuesday there
will be a Halloween Carnival.
Scheduled
Wednesday are a Walking Parade and Hot Dog Spirit Rally and on
Thursday are the traditional Pep Rally and Bonfire. Friday
and Saturday’s events will bring alumni and visitors to campus
for the traditional reunion of friends and classmates.
Friday, Nov.
3, at noon check-in begins for the Alumni Golf Scramble at Webb
Hill Country Club near Wolfe City. The shotgun start is at 1 p.m.
and there is a $50 entry fee. For more information call, (903) 886-5765.
Friday,
Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. there is a Lady Lions volleyball game scheduled
in the Field House against Midwestern State.Friday,
Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. a Benefit Dance will be held in the Texas Ballroom
of the Sam Rayburn Memorial Student Center. The dance will include
a fee of $30 to benefit the Music Campaign. Entertaining will be
the University Jazz Ensemble.
Saturday, Nov.
4, several morning receptions and breakfast meetings are slated
for various alumni groups and the Mayo Memorial Service will be
held. At 10 a.m., the W.L. Mayo Memorial Service will be held at
the Mayo Gravesite located on Lee Street. Professor William L. Mayo
founded the University as East Texas Normal College in 1889. Another
important event on Saturday, Nov. 4, is the Homecoming Luncheon
and Pep Rally to be held in the Texas Ballroom of the student center.

students. At the luncheon will be a presentation of the Homecoming
Court, Distinguished Alumnus Citation, Gold Blazer Awards, and the
Class of ’50.
Also, the reunion
group from the New Center for Learning will be recognized. Kick-off
time is 2:30 p.m. on Saturday for the Lions vs. Angelo State football
game. Other events and receptions for the day include a 3:30 p.m.
Training School Reception in the Leadership Lounge of the student
center. At 5:30 p.m., there will be the Training School Commemorative
Marker Dedication at the southeast corner of the Ferguson Social
Sciences Building.
Also, from 6
to 10 p.m., the Pan-Hellenic Council Annual Fall Greek Show will
be held in the University Auditorium of the Ferguson Social Sciences
Building. At 6:30 p.m, the Training School Banquet will be held
in the American Ballroom of the student center. The Lady Lions volleyball
team will play in the Field House at 7 p.m. Also beginning at 7
p.m. is the Truax Dinner and Dance held in the Lions Lair of the

Also scheduled
Saturday is the Pan-Hellenic Scholarship Dance. The dance will begin
at 10:30 p.m. Call (903) 886-5087 for more information about this
event. For information on the Dallas Multicultural Alumni Reception,
also call (903) 886-5087. Several breakfast meetings and receptions
are planned for Saturday morning. General registration and a reception
for alumni, faculty, and staff will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the
Founders Lounge of the student center.
Meeting at 8
a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 is the Distinguished Alumni Chapter Breakfast
in the Heritage Room of the student center. RSVP to (903) 886-5765.

the Music Alumni Reception in the Concert Hall of the Music Building
from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.; the Agriculture Alumni Reception will be
in the Leadership Lounge of the student center from 8:30 to 9 a.m.;
and the Communication and Theatre, Speech, and Communication Disorders
Alumni Breakfast will be in the Mayo Room of the student center
from 8:30 to 10 a.m. For the communication and theatre breakfast,

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday is the the Agriculture Alumni Breakfast
in the American Ballroom of the student center until 11:30 a.m.,

Also, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Founders Lounge in the student center,
is the reception for International Studies Program Alumni, the Department
of Sociology and Criminal Justice Reception, and the Delta Tau Delta
Alumni Reception. At 10 a.m., the Biological and Earth Sciences
Alumni Reception will be held until 11 a.m. in the Science Building
Room 306 and the Health, Kinesiology and Sports Studies Alumni Reception
will be from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Field House Room 100, RSVP (903)
886-5549 by Oct. 27. Also, at 10 a.m. the Chi Omega Reception is
scheduled in the Chi Omega House.
From 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the Chemistry Alumni Reception will
be in the Science Building, Room 119. From 11 a.m. to noon, the
History Department Reception will meet in the Leadership Lounge
of the student center and from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Farm Boy
Alumni Luncheon will be held in the Watson Center, RSVP (903) 886-5358
