Robert E. (Bob) Taylor

Charles B. Watts (BA ’56, MA ’59) received his PhD in 1964 from the University of Texas and retired in Tennessee as a public school administrator. For 2000-2001, he will be a professor at Florida Southern College, Lakeland, FL.
Robert E. (Bob) Taylor (BS ’54, MED ’58) was honored by being nominated for the Governor’s Volunteer Award for Outstanding Service during the past year. There were 200 nominations statewide. He has been mayor pro-tem of Ennis for six years, Chamber of Commerce director for over ten years, and secretary/treasurer of the Noon Lions Club for nine years. He was a coach, teacher, and assistant superintendent covering 36 years and continues to work with school-related issues, such as recently chairing a district-wide facilities committee that resulted in the passage of a large bond package. He is married to Betty Lawrence Taylor (BS ’53), and they are residents of Ennis.
1960-69

Don Petty (BS ’60) founded Line of Snacks Consultants International in 1989 to assist snack-food companies world-wide. He also writes soft western music and has formed a group, “Deep South.” He has written three books and, with two partners, is launching a snack-food manufacturing firm in Sherman, TX in mid 2000. From his travels to 50 different countries, he has collected 545 miniature lions. As a public speaker, he has given speeches across the United States, as well as many foreign countries. He and his wife, Sylvia, live in Dallas.

Mildred “Toodles” Estes Tankersley (BS ’60, MED ’62) retired from the Cisco ISD in May 2000, after 36 years of teaching in Texas public schools. She is married to Larry Tankersley (BS ’63) and they have four children and eight grandchildren.

Bobby D. Williams (BS ’61) has been a member of Heritage Land Bank’s board of directors since 1998, when the merged institution was formed. Previously, he served on the board of the Federal Land Bank Association of McKinney from 1980 to 1998. He served on the Stockholders’ Advisory Committee for the Tenth Farm Credit District and was chairman of this body for six years. In 1995, he stepped into the national arena to represent the Tenth Farm Credit District on the National Farm Credit Council. In January 2000, he was elected chairman of the National Farm Credit Council.

Jerry Workman (BS ’61, MS ’62) was recently employed by Andrews High School as science teacher. He has 35 years of teaching experience.

Irene Penry “Penny” Murphy (MS ’62) presented a lecture, “The Music Criticism of Raymond Ericson,” in November 1999 for the Musicology Lecture Series at the University of Florida. She received a Master of Music degree from the University of Florida on August 12, 2000.

Jim Ainsworth (BBA ’65) recently published his story of riding horseback on the same trail that his dad and uncle took in 1918. Biscuits Across the Brazos—A Family Journey is a mixture of the old west of 1918 and the modern 1998 west. Charles Horchem (Former Student) also accompanied the group on the fourteen-day trip.

Wayne E. Hirst (BS ’65) was selected to represent the USA on the Gordon Tennis Cup Team (USA vs. Canada) in Cleveland, OH in July, 2000.

Dr. Ron Newsome (BS ’66, MS ’71, EDD ’88) was promoted to the academic rank of full professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education at Tarleton State University beginning with 2000-2001 academic year.

Kenneth Thomas (BS ’66) resides in Richardson, TX and is employed at Fisher Controls as facility manager. He recently completed degree requirements for a master of science degree in human relations and business at Amber University.

Pete Turman (BS ’66, MED ’72, MBA ’73) recently was selected as the principal at Houston Elementary School in Greenville, TX. He was previously coordinator of developmental math for Paris Junior College on the campus of A&M-Commerce.

Judy Tipping (BA ’67, MED ’71) recently began a position in the business office of the Sulphur Springs ISD. She had previously been principal of Sulphur Springs High School for eight years.

Thomas Walker (BS ’67, MS ’72) is a mathematical statistician for the Army Evaluation Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

Robert Galvan (BS ’68) is currently associate dean and assistant professor and director of the Center for Work Force Development and Public Health Leadership at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. He was previously with the city of Richardson for 24 years, as well as the city of Plano, and was the director of

Dr. H. Jack Lassiter (BBA ’68, MS ’69, MED ’78) is serving as chancellor of the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. He is chairperson of the Arkansas Presidents and Chancellors Association for Two-Year Colleges. In the past year, he served as chairperson of a special task force that has developed a new funding formula for two-year colleges in Arkansas.

Dr. Mary Logan (BS ’69, MS ’72, EDD ’82) is professor and chairperson of the Business Administration Department at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. She has completed 31 years of teaching.

Public Health for the city of Fort Worth immediately before assuming his present position.

Dr. John A. Edwards (MA ’69) has been appointed vice president for Enrollment and Student Services at the University of Texas-Pan American, effective August 1, 2000. He had previously been dean of Enrollment Management at Texas A&M University-Commerce since 1985.

 

1970-79

Judge Richard W. Carter, Ret. (BA ’70) is the author of a newly published book of criminal justice humor entitled “Sometimes Justice . . .”.

K. Michael Conaway (BBA ’70) co-chaired the Western Regional Meeting for the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) held in Palm Springs, CA on June 14-16, 2000. NASBA serves as a forum for the nation’s state boards of accountancy, which administer the Uniform CPA Examination, license certified public accountants, and regulate the practice of public accountancy in the United States. He has been a regional director since 1999 and is a board member and current chairman of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. He resides in Midland and is an active volunteer in the community.

Mary Beth Jones-Dawes (BS ’70) retired in May 2000 after teaching in Arlington, TX for 30 years. During her teaching career, she was chosen Outstanding Science Teacher, Teacher of the Year, received P.T.A. Life Membership, and presented at numerous state and national science conventions. She and her husband recently relocated to Tyler.

Paul Green (BS ’70, MS ’72) retired from Navarro College after teaching history and psychology for the past 17 years and as an administrator for eight years. He enjoys travelling, playing golf, and volunteering for cancer victims. He is married to Lynda Mercer Green (BS ’64, MS ’70) who retired in June 2000 from Mexia ISD as director of special education for Limestone County Special Education Co-op. Prior to that position, she worked as an educational diagnostician for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Corsicana ISD, and Bi-County Co-op. She is currently working part-time as a consultant for Behavioral Health Institute and a monitor for Oak Hills Technology, Inc.

Dr. Michael D. Reeves (BS ’70) has been appointed as president and chief executive officer of the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana. He also serves as adjunct professor at Perkins School of Theology at SMU and as a lecturer for The Christian Stewardship Association. He previously served as vice president for stewardship at the United Methodist Foundation of Texas.

Benny Ridge (BBA ’70) recently retired from Texas A&M University-Commerce, after 33 years of service.

George Sheffler (BS ’70) was recently awarded the Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International and will be listed in the next Who’s Who in America (Marquis).

Lt. Col. William B. Carroll (BBA ’71) is budget analyst at HQ AETC, Randolph AFB, TX. He retired from the Air Force in 1991 and maintains currency as a certified flight instructor, with 7,700 total flight hours.

Dr. Eddie Hadlock (MED ’71, EDD ’74) was recently promoted to vice president of instruction at North Central Texas College in Gainesville, TX. In this post he will function as the chief instructional officer for campuses in Cooke, Denton and Montague Counties. He served in the United States Navy, taught public school for two years and has more than 25 years of service in community college teaching and administration.

Clyde A. McAfee (BS ’71) was recently promoted to consultant engineer for the production services group of Amerada Hess Corporation in Houston, TX, where he has been employed for the past 16 years. He and his wife Brenda live in Kingwood, TX.

Carolyn Armstrong (BS ’72) is the assistant principal at Roger Q. Mills Elementary School in the Dallas ISD. She was previously a reading specialist for the Area 5 office in the school district and began her teaching career in 1976 as a third-grade teacher there.

Jack Clemmons (BS ’72) began duties as superintendent of the Lubbock ISD on May 1, 2000. He started his educational career in 1973 as a teacher and coach in the Saginaw ISD and has served in administrative capacities in the Athens, Victoria, Monahans-Wickett-Pyote, and Tatum ISDs.

Linda McGinnis (BS ’73) recently joined Linden-Kildare Elementary School as the physical education teacher. She previously taught first-grade at the Henderson ISD.

Mike Trussell (BMED ’73) has been hired as the director of bands for Italy High School, Italy, TX. He previously was with Buffalo High School and is a veteran music educator. He also worked as assistant director of summer camps and drum major and flag corp instructor at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Dr. Rita Gandy Dobbs (BS ’74, MS ’79) is employed as an assistant professor with the University of Texas at Tyler in the Department of Technology. She received her PhD in Educational Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University, College Station.

Clint Inmon (MS ’74) retired in May 2000 from public school teaching after 32 years. At his retirement, he was assistant principal at Westwood Elementary in Slaton, TX. He currently is a part-time professor with Lubbock Christian College and Wayland Baptist University.

Harnell Williams (BS ’74, MED ’78) is the principal of Roger Q. Mills Elementary School in the Dallas ISD.

Dr. Roy Edward Bottorff (EDD ’75) recently retired from Weyheauser, Mountain Pine, AR, after 20 years of work. He and wife, Doris Jean Newcomb Bottorff (MS ’74), moved to Mississippi, where she teaches Spanish I and English and will direct the play productions at Hatley High School in Amory, MS.

Daniel G. Cole (BS ’75) is currently employed as the traffic engineer with the City of Ithaca, NY.

Celia Anne Wickersham (BMED ’75) was awarded an MED in May 2000 from West Texas A&M University, Canyon, with certification as Educational Diagnostician.

Ronald Wilkinson (MS ’75) resides in Missouri and is corporate vice president and director of Ralston Foods, Ralcorp Holdings, Inc.

Elizabeth V. Hayden (BS ’76) currently teaches in the Round Rock ISD at Deer Park Middle School. She resides in Austin with her son, Major Hayden.

Rick Howard (BS ’76, MS ’78) was recently selected as superintendent of Comanche ISD after serving Ira ISD as superintendent the last nine years. He is currently the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Study Group Chairman for Region 14, recently completed a second two-year term on the Texas Association of Community Schools (TACS) Executive Committee, and participated in the Lamar University Superintendent Academy in 1998-99. His wife, Paula Howard (BS ’77), was recently hired to teach special education at DeLeon ISD, after completing 20 years as an elementary music teacher in Snyder ISD and 21 years as accompanist at Colonial Hill Baptist Church in Snyder.

Lynne Liberato (MS ’76) is a partner in the Appellate Section of Haynes and Boone, L.L.P. and took office as president of the State Bar of Texas during the annual meeting June 21-24, 2000. She worked in the public relations office of Shell Oil Company during the mid-70’s and went to law school at night. She first worked in law as chief staff attorney for the First Court of Appeals.

Will Seger (BS ’76, MS ’87) was recently appointed superintendent of Whitewright ISD. His careers over the past twenty years have included teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal.

Dwight D. York (BS ’76, MBA ’95) is a senior financial analyst with Bank of America in Dallas. He and his wife Pam (Former Student) reside in Red Oak with their daughters Amanda and Amelia, and their two grandchildren, Cole and Laynie.

John Goodroe (BS ’77, MS ’78) has recently been awarded Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 2000. His biography will be included in the forthcoming 2000 edition with other distinguished educators. Goodroe is also a candidate for the Texas Excellence Awards for Outstanding High School Teachers by the Ex-Students Association and College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin. He teaches AP biology and chemistry at Malakoff High School.

Gary McCain (MED ’77) was recently named Legislative Committee Chair for the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. TEPSA represents more than 4,900 elementary and middle school leaders. He was recognized as TEPSAN of the Year in 1997 and is currently principal at Cooper Elementary.

Dave Mason (BS ’78) is currently stationed at Brooks AFB in San Antonio. His Air Force assignments have included Georgia, Ohio, Alabama, England (UK), Massachusetts, and Virginia. He is on his second tour in Texas. He and his wife Nancy reside in Cibolo, TX and their son, Ben, will attend college in the fall of 2000.

Patty Reupke (BS ’78) has joined the firm of Springbok Technologies, Inc., as vice president. She will oversee multiple account teams, aid in new business development, and manage Springbok’s marketing projects. She was previously senior director of marketing for the Southwest area at KPMG.
1980-89

Amy Lacey (BS ’80, MED ’97) has assumed the position of principal of Jones Intermediate School in the Waller ISD. She was previously in Midlothian, TX, where she served as assistant principal of Mt. Peak Elementary School.

Glen A. Miller (BS ’80) retired, after more than 20 years, from the Air Force. He moved back to Texas and began work at EDS, Plano, TX in August 2000.

Mike Moses (EDD ’80), deputy chancellor for Texas Tech University System, was the keynote speaker at Haskell CISD back-to-school inservice on August 7, 2000. In his current position, he oversees governmental relations, institutional advancement, and linkages between public education and the Texas Tech University System. Prior to assuming these duties in 1999, he served as Texas Commissioner of Education from 1995-1999.

Melvin L. Willis, Jr. (MS ’80) retired on January 7, 2000 from the Mesquite Police Department after 22 years of service. During his service, he worked in patrol, community services, criminal investigations, tactical, and administration. At retirement, he was the planning and research coordinator. He and his wife, KJ, live in Port Aransas, and he works as a technical consultant.

Jimmy Hughes (BS ’82, MED ’96), formerly Advanced Placement History instructor at Greenville High School, has been named assistant principal at Greenville Middle School.

Beverly Humphrey (MS ’82) was honored at the Dallas Morning News and The Dallas All Sports Association banquet on June 19, 2000 as the Dallas Morning News’ girls track coach of the year. She led Lancaster High School to a second-place finish at the Class 4A state meet, where three relay teams had qualified to compete.

Dave O’Lenick (BS ’83) is a Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) and was recently promoted to regional sports sales manager for MeriStar Hotels and Resorts in Dallas. He will be responsible for accommodations and tournaments for sports teams and special sports conventions at six properties, including Holiday Inn Select Dallas Central, Holiday Inn Select DFW Airport South, Holiday Inn DFW Airport West, Sheraton Dallas Brookhollow, Radisson Dallas Hotel and Renaissance Dallas North Hotel. He is the father of two children, Lucy, fifteen years old, and Freddie, eight years old.

Don Glover (MM ’84) is employed as a guidance counselor at Sunset High School in Dallas.

Martin Edward Landry (BS ’84) recently received the professional designation of Certified Financial Manager (CFM). He is a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch at the Premier Place office in Dallas.

James Ragland (BS ’84) began contributing three weekly columns, July 2000, to the Dallas Morning News. Two columns address community issues and one will be a “lifestyles” column. He was with the Washington Post from 1991-94 before returning to the News, and was a visiting professor of journalism at Texas A&M University-Commerce during 1999-2000.

Chris DeLong (BBA ’85) celebrated 15 years with the Pepsi Bottling Group on May 13, 2000. He recently accepted the position of vice president of sales for the Texoma Division, where he is responsible for Pepsi’s fountain and vending business in Texas, Oklahoma, and parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas and Missouri. He, wife Karol Ann, and children Chaney, eight years old and Drew, five years old, reside in McKinney.

Ina Miller (BS ’85) is teaching sixth-grade mathematics at Van Alstyne Middle School.

Jack F. Thomason (MED ’85) began duties as the superintendent of the Wortham ISD on July 1, 2000. He was previously superintendent with the Cumby ISD.

Marijo Bono (BS ’86) recently assumed the position of teacher/assistant technology director at Elkart ISD. She was previously with the Paris ISD and also develops and owns an investment real estate company. She has two daughters, a twenty-four year-old RN completing a two-year internship in labor and delivery at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas and an eight year-old, who is a fourth grader at Elkart Elementary School.

Gloria McLuckie (BA ’86) is an award-winning drama teacher at New Diana High School. Her drama team has been the state champion in 1996, 1999 and 2000. She also teaches speech classes and has taken her New Diana students to the U.I.L. in prose interpretation each year for 13 years.

Walter Cherry (MS ’87, PhD ’00) has been a staff member at Glen Oaks Hospital, Greenville, TX for several years.

William R. (Bill) Corrigan (BS ’87) established an environmental consulting and contracting business in 1987. Recently he was awarded a contract to operate and maintain the ground water treatment plant at the Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant Superfund site in Karnack, TX.

Julia Crutchfield (MBA ’87) married David DeCredico on May 27, 2000 in Plano, TX. Attendants were Anne Crutchfield Gunther (BS ’83, MBA ’88), Debbie Winfrey Manos (BA ’89), and Colleen Kirkpatrick (BBA ’87). The couple has relocated to Arlington, VA, where she is a senior manager in the Washington National Tax Practice of KPMG LLP. She is in charge of developing strategies to help KPMG’s clients save money on sales and other transactional taxes.

Hugh C. Hayes (EDD ’87) has recently been named as the deputy commissioner for initiatives and administration with the Texas Education Agency in Austin. He will oversee statewide initiatives, including the Texas Reading Initiative, charter schools, the internal operations areas of the TEA, adult education, governmental relations, communications and the State Board of Education office.

Kristi Hubbard (BBA ’87) was recently promoted from vice president of accounting and controller to senior vice president and chief financial officer with Dallas BeautiControl. She is responsible for the company’s financial operations and strategies both nationally and internationally.

Patricia Holland Phelps (EDD ’87) was recently promoted to full professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, AR.

Shanna Yor’vette Clayton (BS ’88) married Patrick A. Johnson on June 3, 2000 in Sulphur Springs, TX. She is a teacher at Harleton High School.

Sonia E. Clayton (BSW ’88) married Kelvin L. Blakely, Sr. on July 7, 2000 in Greenville, TX. She is a first-grade teacher with Commerce ISD.

Monty Hilburn (BBA ’88) and wife, Naushaba, have relocated to the Detroit, Michigan area. He has assumed the position of production manager for Ogura Corp., a manufacturer of parts for Ford Motor Co. The couple is currently working on their MBA’s through Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Dr. Chester Juroska (EDD ’88) is superintendent of schools in the Alvarado ISD. His wife, Saundra Juroska (BS ’71) is life skills teacher at Alvarado High School.

Linda Colvin (MED ’89) is teaching special education at Van Alstyne Middle School.

Staci Shanks Prier (BBA ’89, MED ’93) is educational diagnostician at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, TX.

Richard Williams (BBA ’89) was recently promoted to inside sales representative of special bar quality steel at TXI-Chaparral Steel.

Kelly Baird (BS ’90) is the head boys’ basketball coach, as well as a varsity football coach, at Mount Vernon High School. He also teaches high school Algebra I.

Kathleen Krueger-Brown (BBA ’90) and husband Darrell announce the arrival of Kacie Michelle Brown on April 22, 2000. She weighed 7 lbs. 8 oz. and was 20 inches long.

James “Jay” Champion (BS ’90, MBA ’99) recently joined First State Bank of Texas as president of the Terrell banking center. He has over ten years of financial experience in the North Texas area and is very active in several civic organizations.

Dr. Susan McBride (EDD ’90) is president of Jefferson Davis Community College in Alabama.

Chad A. Turner (BBA ’90) works for Garrett Real Estate, Inc., specializing in farm, ranch and recreational property. He is married to Amy L. Garrett and they have a son, Cade Allen Turner, who is a year old. They reside in Wynnewood, OK.

Norman “Rusty” Fox (MS ’91) has been named dean of student development and educational services at Tarrant County College Southeast Campus. He will be responsible for management of the daily operations of the library and learning resources services, graphics and instructional media, student activities, counseling and career and employment offices.

Mollie Beth Ables Hatcher (BS ’91) has been married for eight years and was employed as an art teacher at the Crandall ISD until the birth of twin boys, Dalton and Alton Hatcher, on November 27, 1998.

Sean Lehr (BBA ’91) and Amy L. Casselberry Lehr (BBA ’94) will celebrate the second birthday of their son, Cameron Matthew Lehr, on November 25, 2000.

Darron Todd Moore (BS ’91) and Amy Marie Moore (BS ’93) will celebrate the first birthday of their daughter, Anna-Grace Moore, on November 10, 2000.

Steve Roddy (BS ’91) and Gay Rodgers Roddy (BS ’90) proudly announce the birth of their second daughter, Holly Paige, on October 26, 1999. She was welcomed home by big sister, Madison Claire, who is four years old.

Dwayne Sears (BBA ’91) has recently been named shelf set specialist in National Accounts Off Premise Sales for Ben E. Keith Beers. He joined Ben E. Keith Beers in the Fort Worth branch and moved into sales in 1994 and has managed accounts for both grocery and liquor store chains in Dallas. In his new position, he will work with retail outlets throughout Ben E. Keith’s 50 county territory. He and his wife, Danette Edwards Sears (BS ’89, MED ’90) reside in Grand Prairie with their three-year-old daughter, Dlayne.

Regina Upchurch Stanley (BS ’91) and husband, Keith Stanley, announce the birth of Haley Brooke on June 25, 2000. She weighed 8 lbs. 2 oz. and joins her sister, Sierra, who is two and one-half years old.

Cheryl Lee Brewer Vaughan (BS ’91) announces the birth of Aaron Michael Vaughan on January 16, 2000. Jeffrey Allen (BS ’92) and Jennifer Thomas Allen (BS ’92) added Katie Jeanette to their family on May 17, 2000. Big brothers Micah and Cameron are big helpers.

Tisha May Cottman (BA ’92) and her husband, B.J., are the parents of Noah James Cottman, born on June 1, 2000. He weighed 8 lbs. 12 oz. and was 21 1/2 inches long. They reside in Broken Arrow, OK.

Erika D. Lindsey Dorsey (BS ’92) is currently a graphic specialist with RBMN in Dallas. Her husband Tony Dorsey (BS ’94, MM ’00) is a band director in Forney, TX. They reside in Mesquite.

Dr. Gregory S. Powell (EDD ’92) has been appointed the ninth president of Panola College. He began his new duties on June 19, 2000. He previously served as vice president for Academic Affairs at Middle Georgia College and was with Kilgore College for approximately twelve years.

Angela Gayle Ward (BSIS ’92, MED ’94) is currently teaching pre-kindergarten and kindergarten bilingual classes in the Richardson ISD.

Randal Williamson (MA ’92) is teaching theatre arts at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station. He has two children, Katelyn, four years old, and Spencer, one and one-half years old.

Dr. Suzanne E. Monday (BS ’93) has opened a family medical practice in Commerce, TX.

Donald Patrick (BS ’93) is teaching seventh-grade Texas history and coaching freshman football, basketball and junior varsity baseball at Mount Vernon, TX. He previously taught at Winnsboro Junior High for four years.

Chanda D. Speight-Tanner (BS ’93) is an RN supervisor for Concepts of Care, a home health agency, and announces the birth of Bowie Ericson Tanner on January 14, 2000.

Dr. Richard C. Henriksen, Jr. (BS ’94, MS ’96, PHD ’00) recently accepted the position of assistant professor of

counseling in the Department of Special Programs at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He teaches core courses and clinical courses.

Dr. Johannes O. Hoffmann (MS ’94, EDD ’97) is employed at Disneyland as safety engineering manager.

Dr. John E. Kerley (EDD ’94) is principal of Barret Elementary School in Shreveport, LA. The school is implementing the school reform model, Direct Instruction, in the 2000-2001 school year.

Kimberly Dawn Lewis (BSIS ’94) married Timothy L. Sadler on June 23, 2000 in Sulphur Springs, TX. She is employed as a first-grade teacher at Travis Elementary School in Sulphur Springs.

Kevin Edmonson (BS ’95) is an assistant golf professional at Del Lago Resort and Conference Center. He is married to Stacey Edmonson (MED ’97, EDD ’00). She is an assistant professor of Educational Leadership at Sam Houston State University. They reside in Montgomery, TX.

Dr. Richard F. Harlan (EDD ’95) is assistant professor in the Department of Early Childhood at Piedmont College, Demorest, GA.

Jeanne Jordan (BA ’95, MS ’97) has relocated to Virginia and on August 1 began as the newly created assistant director of residence life at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.

Toni McMillen (BA ’95) recently accepted the position of events coordinator in Alumni Records and Services at Texas A&M University-Commerce. She is presently pursuing her master’s degree in literature. She is married to Jeremy McMillen (BA ’95, MA ’97), research analyst for the office of Institutional Research at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.

Mike Sommers (MS ’95) is the agriculture science teacher at Aubrey High School. He was previously with Marcus Flower Mound High School where he taught for the past six years. He and his wife, Tina, reside in Copper Canyon.

James Daugherty (BS ’96) is employed at Caddo Mills High School as the head boys’ basketball coach and world history teacher.

Shelly Holmes (BA ’96, MS ’00) teaches Spanish at Celeste High School. She is married to Phillip Holmes (BA ’96), who is the assistant manager of Reliable Life Insurance in Sherman, TX.

Charles David Moore (BSIS ’96) is teaching fifth- and sixth-grade and Molly Saldivar Moore (BSIS ’97) teaches eighth-grade at Wills Point, TX. They welcomed their second daughter, Haiden Colbi, on January 27, 2000.

Berri Joy O’Neal (BS ’96, MS ’98) appeared in her fifth summer musical at Texas A&M University-Commerce, playing the yuppie Abigal in the production of “big—the musical.” She is coordinator of orientation and retention at Texas A&M University-Commerce and is a doctoral student in higher educational administration.

Steve A. Mulligan (BS ’97) is currently working for Thyssen Krupp, a German Vertical Engineering Firm, as a sales representative.

Latonya S. Pegues (BSIS ’97), a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is entering her fourth year of teaching fifth grade in Dallas. She and Derick A. Douglas (Former Student), a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and an employee of Bax Global, Inc. in Irving, TX, are the parents of Desiree’ Ashenette Douglas, who celebrated her first birthday on March 20, 2000.

Chris Veach (BA ’97) is the junior high football and basketball and head girls’ softball coach at Queen City ISD. He also teaches junior high physical education.

Jennifer Lynn Weitman (BS ’97) married David Alan Brock (BS ’95) in August 2000. They reside in Lubbock, TX.

Amy Elizabeth Bailey (BSIS ’98) married Steven Kyle Griffin (Former Student) on July 22, 2000 in Dallas. She is a sixth-grade teacher in the Dallas ISD. He is the Florida and Latin America territory manager for Right-Now Technologies.

Amanda Daugherty (BA ’98) is employed at Raytheon Systems in Greenville, TX. She and her husband, James, have a three and one-half year-old son, Andrew, and welcomed Sarah Grace into the family on May 26, 2000.

Joni Herron (BSIS ’98) is a fifth-grade teacher in the Garland ISD and recently received the Golden Meadows Elementary campus “Teacher of the Year” award for the 1999-2000 school year.

Keith Kemper (MED ’98) is the new assistant principal, Travis Campus, Rosebud-Lott ISD. He was previously the principal at Rockwall ISD’s student choice alternative school for seven years.

David Lewis (BSIS ’98) recently received a promotion to head football coach at Lyles Middle School in Garland. He also teaches seventh-grade mathematics.

Krista (K-Kay) McKenna (BSIS ’98) is a special education teacher at Quinlan ISD and has a one-year-old son.

Don Rhyme (BS ’98) began teaching writing, composition, psychology, and sociology at San Joaquin Valley College, a small private junior college, in Bakersfield, CA on a part-time basis in 1998. While teaching, he worked part-time in the psychiatric ward of Good Samaritan Hospital. In December 1999, he began teaching part-time and went to work full-time as a combination case manager/screener at Child Guidance Clinic.

Brandon Y. Bell (BPA ’99) married Amanda Babb on June 16, 2000 in Blossom, TX. He is employed by Liberty National Bank as an auditor and is pursuing a master’s degree in economics as well as his CPA certification.

Matthew Jason Campbell (BS ’99) married Amanda Brooke Goforth on July 22, 2000 at Diamond H. Ranch in Denton, TX. He is employed as a teacher by Great Lakes Academy in Plano, TX.

Kim Carr (BSIS ’99) teaches first and second grade at Jefferson Elementary in Sherman, TX.

Marshall Lee Earnhart (BS ’99) is teaching and coaching at Lindsay ISD.

Dr. Ann Mayfield Epps (PhD ’99) is in private practice in Addison and Greenville. She also serves as an on-site employee assistance program counselor for Methodist Hospital of Dallas and is this year’s legislative liaison for the Texas Association of Marriage and Family Counselors.

Stephanie Lynn Gunn (BSIS ’99) married Robert W. Buster on June 2, 2000 in Sulphur Springs, TX. She is currently employed by the Sulphur Springs ISD.

Jennifer Ivie (BS ’99) married Todd Limerick (BSCJ ’99) on July 1, 2000 in Heath, TX. They are residing in Dallas and he graduated from the Dallas Police Academy in August 2000.

David Rains (MS ’99) is the new elementary principal at Mount Vernon ISD. He was a mathematics teacher for six years at Bogata ISD prior to his present position.

David L. Reiniesch, Jr. (BS ’99) recently began a new job at Washington University School of Medicine in the DNA finishing department. He is married to Jennie Gregory (Former Student) and they have one child, Jacob Michael “Jake” born June 24, 1999.

Robyn B. Shapiro (MS ’99) and husband, Rob, announce the birth of their first child, Cooper Jay, born on October 16, 1999 in Dallas, weighing 6 lbs. 10 oz.

Randy Whatley (BS ’99) was recently hired as the middle school band director at Pittsburg, TX.

Melinda J. Williams (MS ’99) is staff therapist at Sabine Valley Center’s Rusk County Family Services. Her duties include providing counseling, screening and referral services. Previously, she was with the Dallas Metrocare services.

Audra Winkler (BS ’99) married Matthew Andrew on July 8, 2000 in Bonham, TX. She is employed by Farmers Insurance in Sherman, TX.

Devon Bailey (BS ’00) is currently coaching middle school football, basketball and track at Royse City, TX.

James Timothy (J. T.) Murrey, Jr. (BA ’00) is employed by ProGEA in Dallas. He married Tennille Kathleen Stibbens (BBA ’00) on September 9, 2000 in Greenville. She is employed by TXU Business Services in Dallas. The couple is residing in Rockwall.

Brandon Owens (BSCJ ’00) was recently named Commerce City Employee of the Quarter in Commerce, TX. He has been with the Commerce Police Department since January 1999, most recently as a full-time patrol officer. He and wife, Jennifer, reside in Sulphur Springs.

Mandy Dee Painter (BSIS ’00) married Brit Allen Brignon on July 22, 2000 in Wolfe City, TX. She is employed by the Navasota ISD as a third-grade teacher.

Jeffrey Wayne Pattison (BS ’00) recently married Michelle Ann Wygal (BSIS ’00). The couple is residing in Caddo Mills, TX.

Stormi Walker (BSW ’00) is the elementary counselor at Mount Vernon ISD.

Former Students

Phillip Garrett is the principal at Durant High School. An educator since 1972, he most recently served as assistant superintendent for administration and instruction for the Sherman School District.

Emmett Wilbanks and wife, Ann, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 20, 2000. He played football for the Lions in 1959 and 1960 and is retired from the Cotton Belt Railroad.
