Writing Celebration Coincides With Congressional Resolution
Commerce, TEXAS- Earlier this month, the United States Senate declared October 20th the National Day on Writing. To celebrate this official proclamation, Texas A&M University-Commerce is inviting the entire community, students and residents, to participate in a Week on Writing October 16-23.
The Week on Writing is a series of events and celebrations of writing in all its forms. All events are free and open to the public.
The Week of Writing will kick off Monday Oct. 19, with “Creative Writing: A Reading.” This reading will be from a selection of A&M-Commerce creative writers, and will be held in the Hall of Languages Room 203 on campus.
Tuesday will feature several panels and presentations, including “Writing Local History: A Panel of Experts” on the first floor of Gee Library from 1 to 2 p.m. The library also will host several films exploring writing and its role from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. called, “NCoW Theater: A Festival of Films about Writing and Writers.” The final event of the day will be “Writing Center Open House/Memoir Workshop,” where attendees can learn more about this particular writing style.
For more information on the week’s events, including event details and schedules, visit the CliC Web site at convergingliteraciescenter.wordpress.com. A schedule of events also is posted on campus in Gee Library, and in the community events display area at the Commerce Public Library.
