Library Youth Services Intern Part-time
Position
We are looking for an energetic person to serve under the general supervision of the Library Director and Circulation Services Supervisor who performs a wide range of duties supporting the library needs of children, teens and adults. Work is performed in accordance with general library policies and accepted professional practice.
Implements and interprets library policies and procedures for library users.
Assists planning and coordination of children's services and programs; presents a weekly story time.
Assists coordination of
summer youth programming and related activities.
Assists planning and implementation of summer reading program, including
puppet shows, printed material and special events.
Attends monthly children's librarians meetings.
Maintains a current
awareness of children's literature and services.
Identifies curriculum needs in the community; plans and provides services to
meet these needs
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Second year college student or student teacher specializing in youth services activities and/or day care related activities. Consideration may be given to first year student enrolled in good standing or individual possessing certification in elementary or secondary education.
A minimum of one year of library experience preferred and/or one year substitute teaching or recent classroom experience with youth; and/ or experience preparing programming for youth.
Experience working with personal computers & library electronic resources, preferred.
Possession of a valid driver's license or ability to provide transportation as needed.
Spanish language a plus

Library Clerk I Part-time Position
A Library Clerk provides assistance with library functions in offering quality library services to the public. This position focuses on shelving, technical processing assistance and general library duties. The Library Clerk I will acknowledge and accept the Library’s Mission Statement and respects the Library’s confidentiality laws and maintains the integrity of the Sulphur Springs Public Library.
Principle Job Priorities (not all inclusive and may be modified at anytime):
General: Aspires to help patrons to become lifelong library users by introducing them to a wealth of library resources and enables them to use library services effectively. Assists patrons in locating needed resources (general) or referring them to other staff for assistance. May provide general assistance for Internet usage and computer programs within the Library. Sustains the dignity of patrons by giving them correct, non-judgmental and complete responses to their various informational needs. Provides help where needed and respects patron’s right to browse. May assist in minor maintenance and manages technological equipment (photocopier, printers, AV equipment, computers and reader/printer) requiring minimal servicing and accountability within the library. May handle monetary payments for fines, donations, ILL, etc. Enforces library rules for the protection of library patrons and property. Helps to maintain a neat, clean, functional and inviting library.
Shelf Maintenance Responsibilities: Assists with shelving library materials. May assist with shelf organization, arrangements and shelf maintenance in all areas of the library. Maintains shelf and book cleanliness. Keeps Director informed as to needs and recommendations.
SUPERVISION: Under direct supervision of the Circulation Desk Supervisor, but may be directed in certain tasks by Library Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: High School Diploma and at least 1 year of experience working in retail or customer service. An enthusiastic desire to work with the public is essential. Computer knowledge and skills is desirable. Must be willing to learn or know how to use Online Public Access Catalog, electronic resources.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical requirements include ability to move around the facility, walk, sit, bend, climb, kneel, stoop, carry; Ability to use hand and finger motion with enough manual dexterity to use computers and handle library items; Lift up to 30lbs, or greater with assistance; and perform other efforts such as pushing a loaded book cart as identified with normal library work; must have the ability to communicate with patrons effectively; having the ability to talk with clarity and be able to listen to patrons accurately; Must have specific vision abilities (adjusted) that include close and distance vision with good depth perception; reasonable accommodations may be available; Typing ability and computer skills desirable.
Duties are performed in surroundings where undesirable physical conditions and hazards are minor and controllable.

We are looking for a part-time RECEPTIONIST/ASSISTANT to work late afternoon/evenings (M-Th 3:00-8:00 pm) and some Saturdays 10:00 am-3:00 pm. approximately 20 hours per week. Must have an outgoing personality, professional appearance, and like children. Dance and/or music background & computer skills a plus! $8.50 per hour.
We are also currently looking for a Hip-Hop teacher for intermediate and advanced students as well as a guitar teacher for one or two days a week.
