Community Activities

Members of the A-TEAM are involved in several projects that are dedicated to the strengthening individuals and organizations in our community so they can achieve their goals. This is accomplished through student commitment to community service and teamwork. The A-TEAM is involved in several ongoing programs. These are described below.

The Students Opportunity for Sharing Colloquium

This is an event designed by and for social work students at Texas A & M University-Commerce. This important event gives new and current students in the program opportunity to hear from faculty and other students about the program, the student organizations, and the student-related areas of interest (such as deadlines for forms and the real world of the social work field practicum experience. All social work students attend this event. Students wanted it, put it together, and benefit tremendously from the opportunity to network.

Semester Celebration Dinner

The Celebration Dinner is an event to celebrate the end of each long semester, the students who served in the two social work student organizations and the graduating seniors for that semester. This event promotes socialization with family, and highlights group volunteerism with formal awards and recognition. Both A-TEAM and Alpha Delta Mu officers work together to plan, organize, and publicize the event. All students and their family members are encouraged to attend. The event begins with a dinner. Following the dinner, select faculty (faculty advisors, other faculty, and/or local professionals from the community) give brief speeches about the social work program and its student population. Awards are then given for outstanding service to the university and community. A dessert bake-off finalist is chosen (from students who prepare their favorite desserts ahead of time) and the ceremony concludes with pictures of graduates, the A-TEAM officers, and Alpha Delta Mu officers. At this meeting, the announcement of newly elected officers is made. This event serves to strengthen the relationship between the university and the Commerce community.
