Alpha Delta Mu
National Social Work Honor Society
PURPOSE
The primary objective of Alpha Delta Mu is to encourage and recognize superior scholarship in social work education and to advance excellence in social work practice. The society feels that it serves the interest of the students capable of excellence by insisting that in order to acquire a chapter of Alpha Delta Mu, an institution must provide the means and atmosphere conducive to academic excellence.
HISTORY
Alpha Delta Mu National Social Work Honors Society was founded in the fall of 1976 by the late Dr. J. Lawrence Feagins at Morgan State University. In 1977 Alpha Delta Mu was incorporated under the non-profit laws of the State of Maryland and became a national organization as chapters were established in many colleges and universities throughout the United States. Alpha Delta Mu colors are Black and Silver and the Society's motto is "Advocate of the People."
WHY JOIN AN HONOR SOCIETY
The functions of an honor society are not social as in the case of general college fraternities and sororities. Social activities of honor societies are incidental and occasional, usually in connection with major activities. The following functions are properly served by an honor society:
