Psychology

The Department of Psychology and Special Education offers the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees with a major in psychology. This major prepares students for graduate study in psychology and for careers or graduate study in psychology-related fields. A graduate with a major in psychology should possess competencies such as: Knowledge of scientific methods, research designs, and statistical techniques, as well as their application to the study of human behavior and cognitive processing.

Special Education

The Department of Psychology and Special Education offers an all-level generic special education certification for students pursuing teaching careers. This all-level certificate provides the teacher with a knowledge of disabling conditions and their effects on learning and adaptions, as well as knowledge of accommodations and modifications for providing instruction in the least restrictive settings. Additionally, graduates should be prepared for careers as special education teachers or related service personnel, demonstrating a knowledge of professional roles and the skills used for promoting learning and development in English language arts, reading, and math. Students may also seek a bachelor's within generic special education as either a second teaching field or as an interdisciplinary studies major.
