A New Scholarship

and

Undergraduate Assistantship Program

For Transferring Physics Majors

The physics department has undergraduate assistantships for community college transfer students. The department will provide $750.00 per semester for qualified junior and senior students for up to four semesters. These assistantships are coupled with transfer scholarships to provide up to $7,000 in assistance to transfer students majoring in physics at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

The general elements of the program are shown below. Some additional features may be added in the future.

Assistantship qualifications are identical to the PTK scholarships and it is assumed that students will receive both awards for up to $7,000 total over a period of two years.

Assistantships require that students perform duties within the physics department such as:
- Helping in research laboratories
- Tutoring freshman and sophomore students
- Grading homework papers
- Assisting in teaching laboratories
- Traveling to area schools and performing demonstrations

Assistantships are available on a first come – first serve basis for qualified students.

Typical Scholarship and Assistantship Package

(2 year – 4 semester totals shown)

$2,000 PTK or Transfer Scholarships

$2,000 Housing Scholarships (must live in campus housing)

$3,000 Physics Undergraduate Assistantship
