FUNCTIONThe Texas A&M University-Commerce Office of Marketing Communications is responsible for communicating information that promotes the university and recent significant accomplishments of students, faculty and staff within the northeast Texas region and beyond. Much of this information originates from information reported by faculty and staff. It is our responsibility, when publicity is appropriate, to develop that information into a news release consistent with the Associated Press news writing style and university procedure. Our staff will assist departments and individuals desiring news coverage in advance of any activity or event; however, complete information must be received at least 10 working days prior to the scheduled activity or event. For instance, one (1) week may be sufficient to submit a released for an upcoming event to a daily newspaper, but two (2) weeks allows us to meet the deadlines of weekly newspapers in the region. Please keep in mind that control is with the newspaper editor, not the university. The editor decides when, if at all, to publish the release. The office has photographic facilities and provides photographs of university events when warranted. Among the delivery vehicles for news is A&M-Commerce Today, a twice-monthly faculty/staff newsletter that is sent to more than 1,000 full- and part-time employees via Campus Mail. |
