Write-On is back! The faculty advisor for Write-On is Dr. Shannon Carter, Assistant Professor of English and Director of the Communication Skills Center. Because Write-On is funded by student service fees, the journal will be managed by students. The new co-editors for this e-journal are Sonja Andrus and Angie Smith, both graduate students in the Department of Literature and Languages. Write-On is a publication dedicated to providing talented students at Texas A&M University-Commerce an extended audience for their non-creative written work in lower-division courses such as first-year composition, history, and other writing-intensive fields. Although the publication has traditionally limited its participants to students in English 100, 101, and 102, we have recently expanded the scope of this e-journal to include the works of students in other lower-division writing-intensive courses to benefit the cross-disciplinary efforts of the Communication Skills Center and the university as a whole. The Communication Skills Center publishes Write-On to recognize the important work of student writers and to encourage students of all abilities to take advantage of the CSCs resources. We also hope that this publication will serve as a model for future students preparing work for these lower-division courses. Write-On will accept papers that are approximately five pages in length (1000-1250 words) and have been referred by an instructor. Students must complete the referral/submission form (signed by the instructor) and return it along with a hard copy and an .rtf version of the paper saved to a 3 ½ disk. All submissions should be given to Chess Johnson, secretary of the Communication Skills Center (HL 106). We have tentatively set the submission deadline at noon on Friday, March 15, 2002. Please request a submission form from your professor, or if you are a professor in need of submission forms, please contact Chess Johnson at x5280. If by chance you have a paper that has much potential, but you are unsure that the paper is ready for publication in this state, please consider the Communication Skills Center for further development of the essay. Sincerely, Sonja Andrus and Angie Smith |
