The
Mayo Review - Publication Guidelines
POLICIES
The
Mayo Review is a literary
journal which prints the work of Texas A&M University-Commerce students.
The Mayo Review copyrights all material in the name of the writer/artist. Contributors hold full rights to their individual
works.
Who
May Submit: All students who are currently
registered during the submission period may submit their work. The journal does not set any content or length
requirements: we encourage as wide a submission
range as possible, and we tend to look for the "best work" in a variety
of genres. Copyright remains in the writers'
names. No money is paid for submissions.
Editorial
Board: The Editorial Board consists
of A&M-Commerce students, advised by Dr. Robin Anne Reid, Department of Literature
and Languages. Any A&M-Commerce student,
graduate or undergraduate, full or part time, may volunteer to serve as a Student
Readers and/or as a member of the Editorial Board for a semester or an academic
year. Students do not have to be English
majors. The main duties of the Editorial Board consist of: reading submissions in the blind reading process
and making the final selections for the journal; preparing the journal for printing;
selecting a Prize Committee to award the Sigma Tau Delta prizes; and distributing
the journal on campus.
Blind
Reading Process: The Mayo Review
has a firm policy of "blind reading" of submissions, both for acceptance
and for prizes. The "blind reading
process" is administered by the advisor. Names of submitting writers or artists
are NOT on submissions. A variety of readers
(faculty and student) read and rank the work in a process lasting several weeks,
including both individual and group readings.
Prizes:
The
prizes awarded are as follows: the Brenda Black-White Poetry Prize ($50.00), and
the Sigma Tau Delta/William Owens Memorial Award for Fiction (50.00) and for Non-Fiction/Essay
($50.00). There is no requirement that
the prizes be awarded if the judges do not consider any single piece merits the
prize. The Brenda Black-White Poetry Prize
is judged by Brenda Black-White, and the Sigma Tau Delta/William Owens Memorial
Awards are judged by a committee, consisting of Literature and Languages faculty
and a graduate, and an undergraduate student who are Sigma Tau Delta members,
nominated by the Editorial Board.
