English 534.001- British Literature Before 1660

English 534 (Summer II)
 
Immerse yourself in one of the most under-read "Great Poet": Milton.  We will start off with short early poems and progress through Lycidas, Comus, Paradise Lost (complete), Samson Agonistes and, if we have time, Paradise Regained. Please expect eekly journals, final exam, in-class writing assignments and research paper.
 
We will use Complete Poems and Major Prose, edited by Merritt Y. Hughes, Hackett Publishing, 1957 reprinted 2003. Students may use either the original or the reprint, but they must buy one of them.
