Scholarships : Scholarships overview These scholarships can be applied toward student tuition and fees beginning with the Summer or Fall semesters of the year scholarship is awarded. Paul Wells Barrus Undergraduate Scholarship: $500 scholarship awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Spanish or English. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.5 in major and 3.2 overall; must have completed 9 hours in advanced coursework in major; (2) combined SAT score of 1000 or an ACT score 21; (3) letters of recommendation from two instructors at TAMU-Commerce, at least one of whom must t a professor from the student's major; (4) statement of 300-500 words on how the knowledge gained from the student's major will enrich professional career or personal life, or both; and (5) completed application form. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.5 or higher in graduate work in the major; (2) letters of recommendation from two instructors at T AMU-Commerce; at least one letter must be from a professor in the student's major; (3) must have no incompletes at the time of the application deadline; (4) a statement of 300-500 words on how the knowledge you gain from your graduate work will enrich your professional career or personal life, or both; and (5) completed application form. Deadline: March 16, 2007 application form Mary Rives Bowman Graduate Scholarship: $500 scholarship awarded to a graduate student in English. Requirements: (1) must be a graduate student in English; (2) letters of recommendation from two instructors at T AMU-Commerce; at least one letter must be from a professor in the student's major (3) must be currently enrolled in graduate courses in English; (4) must enroll for a minimum of six hours of graduate English courses for Summer I and/or Summer II at TAMU-Commerce; (5) must demonstrate financial need; (6) must have satisfactory GPA in graduate courses; (7) must have no incompletes at the time of the application deadline; (8) must submit a statement requesting consideration and 2-4 paragraphs describing financial need; and (9) completed application form. Deadline: March 16, 2007 application form James W. Byrd Undergraduate Scholarship: $500 scholarship awarded to a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student majoring in English or Spanish. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.0 or higher in major, and 3.0 overall and must have completed 9 hours in advanced coursework in major by application deadline; (2) letters of recommendation from two instructors at TAMU-Commerce, at least one of whom must be a professor from the student's major; (3) statement of 300-500 words on either (a) why student is interested in multi-cultural or multi-ethnic literature or folklore, or (b) how the study of multi-cultural or multi-ethnic literature or folklore will enrich student's professional or personal growth; and (4) completed application form. Deadline: March 16, 2007 application form Charles and Ernestine S. Linck Undergraduate Scholarship: $500 need-based scholarship awarded to a junior or senior English major, focusing on the study of literature, and whose goal is teaching and/or research. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.0 or higher in the major and overall and must have completed 9 hours in advanced coursework in major by application deadline; (2) letters of recommendation from two instructors at TAMU-Commerce, at least one of whom must be a professor from the student's major; (3) a statement of 2-4 paragraphs describing financial need; and (4) a completed application form. Deadline: March 16, 2007 application form Adelle Rogers Clark Graduate Scholarship: $500 scholarship awarded to a graduate student majoring in English or Spanish. Requirements: (1) GPA of 3.5 or higher in the major; (2) letters of recommendation from two instructors at TAMU-Commerce, at least one of whom must be a professor from the student's major; (3) a statement of 300-500 words on how the knowledge gained will enrich the student's life or professional career, or both; and (4) a completed application form.
