ExCET Requirements |

| September
7,1999 |
| |
| Because
of recent state-required changes in teacher certification policies
in both the Secondary Education Department and the Department of Literature
and Languages, this memo is designed to inform you about these
new policies regarding ExCET (English). |
| |
| The
most important new policy is that permission to seek certification
in English--whether now or in years to come--is granted by the Department
of Literature and Languages only. |
| |
| As
a student who is currently enrolled in your residency semester, you
are NOT expected to meet all the policies which are established for
incoming students this fall. However, you are expected to attend
at least one of the ExCET review workshops scheduled by the Department
of Literature and Languages. |
| |
| If
you are planning to take the ExCET any time during the 2001-2002 academic
year, you are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop. If
you do not attend this workshop, you will have to attend one scheduled
later this year. |
| |
| The
more preparation and background you will have, the more confident
you will be when you take the test. In addition to workshops,
course syllabi and handouts from your instructors should alert you
to the ExCET elements and domains found within your courses. |
| |
| The
ExCET adviser for English is Bill Bolin. His office is
HL 314. |
| |
| If
you have any questions about the process, specific criteria, the workshops,
or your standing in the program, please contact the ExCET adviser
or me. |
