Micoforms are photographic reproductions of printed material which are issued in a reduced format. The Gee library microforms collection includes microfiche, microfilm, ultrafiche and microcard. Each format requires its own reading/printing equipment. Copies can be made of all formats.

The location of microforms is on the 2nd floor, west wing back to the windows.

Equipment

Readers are provided for all formats. Copies can be made from microfiche, microfilm, ultrafiche and microcard. The cost is $.10 per page and any copying will be done by the microforms personnel. Recent purchase of Minolta and Indus scanning equipment make copying of ultrafiche and microcard formats possible.

Graduate students and faculty may check out portable microfilm or microfiche readers along with selected film/fiche from the collection.

Collection

A selective tour of the collection: newspapers and periodicals on microfilm, microfiche, ERIC documents 1966-present, University of Oregon Health Physical Education series on microfiche, Library of Civilization series on ultrafiche, APS series I,II,III on microfilm, Early English books on film, TAMU-C dissertations on film, Presidential papers series on film, Early American Newspapers on microcard.

Current Periodicals/Newspapers

The current issues of both periodicals and newspapers are located in the microforms area. Tables and seating areas are provided for patron use. Copiers are also available for copying from periodicals/newspapers , a limited number of issues (5 at a time) may be taken from micro for use in the building. You must have a student ID which is kept until the issues are returned. Periodicals/newspapers cannot be checked out to patrons and cannot leave the building.

Check Out

Graduate students and faculty may check out portable microfilm or microfiche readers along with selected film/fiche from the collection.

The check out period is 7 days. Renewals depend on demand for the equipment. Summer check out is 3 days, no renewals.

Over due fines are assessed at $.25 per item per day.

Courtesy card holders are welcome to use the collection and have copies made. They may not check out microform material of any type. No periodicals or newspapers are circulated.

Copying

Two photo copiers are located in the microforms area for copying from current newspapers and periodicals. They require the LION Card copy card.
