Two Types of Periodical Databases
Which periodical database to use depends upon your topic.

1. General Periodical Databases

  •  Is your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
  •  Currently in the news?

If so, start with one of the general periodical databases. These cover a wide range of subjects and often index a mixture of popular and scholarly sources. This is often a good place to begin research. Examples of general periodical databases and the kinds of articles they identify are:

Wilson Select Plus
Provides access to full text artcles in science, humanities, education and business from 1994 to present.
Newspaper Source Indexes full text articles from over 500 U.S. newspapers, from 1991 to present.
Lexis Nexis
Indexes articles from magazines and newspapers on many topics including world & U.S. news, law, medicine, business, and reference.
