Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) contains full-text information about, and reviews of, most English-language standardized tests covering educational skills, personality, vocational aptitude, psychology, and related areas as included in the printed Mental Measurements Yearbooks.
The full-text for each record includes an overview of the test, a description of the test materials and time needed to administer the test, as well as one or more reviews of the test including reliability and validity of the test. MMY DOES NOT provide the user with a copy of the standardized test. The test must be purchased from the publisher.
Mental Measurements Yearbook can be accessed from the computers in the Reference Area or from the Library Databases web page.
To locate reviews of standardized tests written prior to 1989, please consult print editions of Mental Measurements Yearbook located in the reference area of the library (REF Z 5814.P8 B932).
Use the following steps to access the MMY database:
To use the title limit option, the user types a word or test name followed by "in TN".
e.g., "Myers-Briggs Type Inventory in TN" retrieves the records with the test name in the title.
The user may limit a search by subject by using the Index button (in the right-hand menu) by typing a word in the Find box and then clicking on the Index button.
e.g., type "suicide" in the Find box, click on the Index button, and the results will indicate how many tests have suicide as a subject
Searchers may use boolean or positional operators to connect their ideas.
e.g., "teacher adj burnout" will retrieve records with the phrase teacher burnout; "teacher and burnout" will retrieve records with both of the words somewhere in the record
MMY also accepts the use of the truncation symbol "*" which serves as a substitute for a string of characters.
E.g., "cat*" retrieves "catatonic", "category", etc.
The user can find an explanation of the truncation feature by clicking on the Database Information button.
The user may print, download (save), or email search results.
