Coretta Scott King Award



Coretta Scott King Award

Established in 1969, this award commemorates the life and work of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and honors Mrs. King "for her courage and determination to continue the work for peace and world brotherhood." It is presented annually at the American Library Association, to a black author (A) and illustrator (I) whose works "encourage and promote" world unity and peace, and serve as an inspiration to young people on the achievement of their goals. A plaque honorarium and an encyclopedia are presented as gifts. All items prefixed with an asterisk (*) are held by James G. Gee Library, Texas A&M University--Commerce.
