The Special Collections is a research library containing collections of books, photographs, maps, newspapers, oral histories, Special Collections, magazines and clipping files about Texas A&M University-Commerce and Northeast Texas.
The collections of the Special Collections span the time period from the 1820s to the present and include information about politics, education,culture, demographics and family histories.
An index to the oral history collections at the James G. Gee Library, the Red River County Public Library, the Terrell Public Library, and the Walworth Harrison Public Library.
A digital collection that now features World War II items and video clips of WWII veteran interviews. (As the clips are processed they will be made available from the digital library site.)

The materials housed in the Special Collections contain both primary research and published items,. These are organized into the following collection units:. General Collections--More than 10,000 books, reports, directories, and magazines relating to local history; printing arts; medicine; Texas literature and poetry; and Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Special Collections--Mostly primary research materials on Texas literature and history; among the collections are the personal papers of State senators A. M. Aikin and Payton McKnight, U. S. Representative Ray Roberts, Ambassador Fletcher Warren, Elithe Hamilton Kirkland, Faye Carr Adams and many other prominent men and women. The Skipper Steely and Cecile Wright collections contain histories of Northeast Texas families from 1816 to 1876.
Oral History--Approximately 200 oral history interviews documenting the history of dairy farming in Texas, African-American history, East Texas sawmill towns, Texas rural schools, the political career of A. M. Akin, history of Texas social work and local Hunt County history.
Photographic Collection--More than 20,000 photographic images which visually document the people, events, buildings of Texas A&M University-Commerce.
East Texan File--A vertical file of 600 subject folders containing clippings, pamphlets and ephemeral which documents events and individuals and places of Texas A&M Universtiy-Commerce.
Map Collection--More than 300 maps from the 1820s to the present, including city and state and regional and other special maps. The Special Collections serves as a depository for the RHRD program administered by the Local Records Division of the Texas State Special Collections. The Special Collections contains on microfilm records from the county and district clerks offices in Bowie, Cass, Hopkins, Hunt, Harrison, Marion, Titus, Smith, Wood, and Van Zandt counties. These rolls may be borrowed through Inter Library Loan.
