Goal 2: Serials Collection Control
Made substantial progress in upgrading issue-level holdings data within LION.
Made substantial progress in providing claim letters and other missing issue support within DRA serials subsystem.
Goal 3: Assessment of Distance Education Support Needs
Received input from NETP Survey of Faculty and Distance Students that library support needs are being met.
Failed to complete hiring of Distance Education/Systems Librarian who will have major responsibility for identifying new service options for this student audience.
CTIS provided Proxy Server solution for distance access to TAMU-C electronic library resources.
Goal 4: Restructure library and support staff to provide for improved delivery of services to faculty and students
We have continued to produce effective library support with minimal staffing. Further adjustments dependent upon facility renovation.
Instructional Multimedia transferred to NETP effective June 1, 1998.
Goal 5: Work on inclusion within campus kiosks.
Demonstration of virtual library tour complete; will be incorporated in library web page.
Goal 6: Work with Colleges and Departments on collection assessments.
Work was completed for a variety of departments for accreditation and CB new program reviews.
Goal 7: Complete review of current library system and develop five-year plan.
Participating with the TAMUS Consortia on the replacement of the library system. RFI process completed and request for special funding for replacement part of TAMU-C 1999 legislative request.
Goal 8: Ongoing LION Database maintenance
Sound recordings and Media collection added in 1997/98; journal holdings continue to be updated; government documents are added monthly; and final editing of microform collections ongoing.
Goal 9: Oral History Projects
Goal 10: Ongoing maintenance of records retention schedule
We continue to meet system expectation for local records management. Improvements in shelving will be occurring as part of the SpaceSaver Shelving project in fall 1998.
Goal 11: Ongoing maintenance of collections
Items are reviewed for repair and/or withdrawal as they circulate.
Goal 12: Ongoing exploration of alternative funding for library-related projects
Submissions made to Sprint Foundation liaison, Meadows Foundation, MCI Foundation. Sprint Foundation still open request; others turned down as good projects that the foundations did not have funds to support.
Over 125 multimedia producers approached for sample software for K-12; several have responded with materials valued at over $6,000.
Goal 13: Ongoing facilities upgrading and cleaning
Emergency lighting for stairwells and stack areas partially installed by August 1998. Internal information signs reviewed and simplified for a more consistent appearance. Front entry security system replaced and automatic doors upgraded; final construction work to be done in this area during fall 1998 semester.
Major renovation plan created and presented; permission to raise funds received.
Non-traditional Services
Media Services, Campus Engineer, Faculty/Staff Software Training and Instructional Multimedia were in maintenance mode. Major accomplishment was the purchase of CBT Training Software to support the Software Training operation and minimize the work of Instructional Multimedia in the area of creating training materials.
