Who is eligible for an insurance waiver?

Automatic enrollment in the A&M System insurance may be waived for international students only in the following instances. It is your responsibility to notify the ISSO by completing the Insurance Exemption form if you are eligible for the insurance waiver:

Graduate Assistantships- A student with a full-time graduate assistantship who is covered by the GA insurance. Enrollment in the GA insurance is not automatic and you will be required to sign up for the insurance in the Human Resource department. Please note there may be a waiting period before the GA insurance is effective and students will be required to have coverage through the A&M System insurance until their GA insurance is effective. Once you reach the effective date for your GA insurance please notify the ISSO.

Scholarships- A student who is sponsored by the United States Government, a foreign government recognized by the United States of America, or certain international, government sponsored or non-governmental organizations. Waivers will be based on the government or organization guaranteeing payment of all health care expenses including medical evacuation and repatriation.

Employment based insurance- A student of a spouse who is legally employed within the U.S. and whose coverage meets the A&M-Commerce's minimum coverage requirements. Please note that a separate repatriation and evacuation insurance plan through the A&M System insurance may need to be purchased if not covered under spouse's insurance.
