GETTING TO TAMU-C

Port of Entry and Customs

Before leaving home you must assemble the following items:

• Valid passport
• F-1 or J-1 visa
• I-20 (F-1 visa) or DS-2019 (J-1 visa) issued by this school
• Documents proving availability of funds, such as bank or sponsor letter

At the US Customs and Immigration checkpoint, expect to show these materials and answer questions about your intentions in the US. You will receive a card to declare the value of your possessions. You will also receive your I-94 card on the plane. It is very important that you fill out the I-94 with the correct name, matching your passport and visa. This card is necessary for filing any paperwork with the US government and for leaving the country for any reason. Staple it into your passport.

Getting to TAMU-Commerce

By Air: The only international airport in the region is Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), located about 20 miles west of Dallas. Love Field, an airport inside the city of Dallas, handles domestic flights.

By Cab: Taking a cab from the airport to Commerce may be tempting because of its convenience but be warned that the fare will be extremely expensive, perhaps over $100. Be sure to get an approximate price from the driver before accepting a ride.

By Bus: Unfortunately, there are no transportation companies offering direct service from the Dallas airports to our university. The only public transportation option available is to take a cab or shuttle from the airport to Dallas, take an early morning bus from the Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Dallas to Greenville, TX, then use The Connection shuttle service to get from Greenville to Commerce. The Greenville shuttle is available only Monday through Friday and the last shuttle to Commerce leaves around 2:00 p.m.

By Train: There are no passenger trains between Dallas and Commerce.

By Car: TAMU-Commerce is located approximately 65 miles northeast of Dallas. Take Interstate 30 (I-30), then Exit 101 to State Highway 50 (SH 50) and continue west approximately 10 miles to Commerce. The campus is next to the highway.
