EMPLOYMENT AND BANKING

F-1 visa benefits include a variety of opportunities for employment while the student is in the US. You may work up to 20 hours per week during Spring/Fall and 40 hours per week during Summer and holiday breaks on-campus without special authorization. On-campus jobs are available but limited. There are not enough jobs on-campus for all students. Some students will find a job, some will not. View these web sites for job opening. GA website, Human Resources page.

Banking

Most American banks require a Social Security Number to open an account. You will not be eligible to obtain a Social Security Number unless you find on-campus employment. There are some banks in Commerce allowing students to open a checking account without a Social Security Number:
