ACADEMIC SERVICES
Academic Advising
Students receive academic advising through the academic department in which their degree is based (Business, Education, etc.). Contact the department office for instructions how to speak with the appropriate advisor. Incoming students should be aware that academic advising is an ongoing process. Not only will you want to obtain a list of courses you should take during your program of study, you will want to periodically check with an advisor regarding your progress.
Early in your final semester you will apply for graduation. The Registrar's office will check your transcript to determine if you have fulfilled degree requirements. To avoid disappointment, get assurance from your academic advisor prior to your last semester that you have completed all necessary courses.
Getting information from other students may be helpful regarding opinions about teachers or the difficulty of certain courses but should not be relied upon for serious academic or immigration issues. Please contact appropriate professionals for assistance.
Writing Lab
Many students, American and International, could benefit from professional instruction regarding reading, research and writing skills. The Communications Skills Center provides instruction and resources to students, including personal tutoring. They can help you with writing or editing papers, how to start a research project and study tips. This service is free to students.
Library
The James G. Gee Library, located in the center of campus, provides a number of services to students, including inter-library loans, online databases and computer labs. Librarians are available to assist students in locating local source materials as well as providing instruction on complex research techniques. For more information, see the library website.
