Classified Employment


Q. Do I need an application for each position?
A. Yes.

Q. Will you take resumes?
A. You may put a resume with the application; we do not take resumes  
     without an application.

Q. May I submit an application to be kept on file?
A. No, we only accept applications for positions that are posted.

Q. Do you have to make a certain score on the required testing?
A. Only on the Typing test. If a speed is listed you must make that 
     speed of more for application to be considered. The remainder of
     testing is diagnostic only.


Search Procedures


Q. What paperwork do I need to conduct a search?
A. Search Procedure requirements (revised Jan, 2000).

Q. What positions are available?
A. At the time of your inquiry, you will be informed of all position      
     vacancies.

Q. After the completion of the search, do I send all correspondence to 
     HR?
A. Yes, all search correspondence must be maintained in the HR 
     files for 3 calendar years. (January to January).

Q. Does HR department advertise positions for searches.
A. Not typically, the search committee is responsible for developing 
 
     and positing the position(s).


Student Employment 


Q. How can I get on Work Study?
A, You must complete the FAFSA in the Financial Aid office and mark 
     “yes” to the question on the FAFSA that asks you if you are
     interested in Student Employment.

Q. What is the difference between Work-Study jobs and Regular  
     Campus jobs?
A. The jobs and pay are the same, only the source of funding is  
     different.

Q. How many hours can I work?
A. Student workers are allowed to work 15 hours per week.  
     Additionally Work-Study student workers cannot earn more than  
     your Work-Study Award. The work schedules are arranged between 
     the student and his/her supervisor.

Q. Do I need to complete an application for employment?
A. No, however, available positions are posted with the Department of  
     Human in the Ferguson Social Science Bldg. Room 130. A student  
     must be issued a WORK-PERMIT from employee services before  
     seeking interviews for work-study positions.

Q. How much will I get paid?
A. The federal minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. Wages above the 
     minimum may be paid if technical skills are required.

Q. When will I get paid?
A. Paychecks are issued biweekly. Paychecks are based upon time 
     reports submitted by each department at the end of each two-week
     period.

Q. Can I work during the Holiday break?
A. Although Regular Campus Student Workers can work during the 
     break, Work-Study student Workers can only work through the last
     day of the semester. Work-Study Student worker can obtain special 
     permission in the Financial Office.

Q. Can I work as a Graduate Assistant and Regular Student worker?
A. You can work both ONLY if you work 10 hours as a Graduate 
     Assistant and the remaining hours do not exceed the hours allowed  
     for a Student Worker to work per week.


Insurance


Q. What insurance do I have?
A. Individual’s choice – each is different.

Q. How much does my insurance pay?
A. Plans differ – so does payment.

Q. What providers are on my plan?
A. See booklet of providers in Insurance Office.

Q. What medications are on the formulary list for Advanced?
A. List of formulary provided from Advanced to you, ask them.

Q. Who is responsible for selecting the insurance companies and  
     plans offered to the employees?
A. The Insurance Specialist and Human Resources Personnel at 
     Texas A&M University System Office in College Station. 


Retirement


Q. Can we borrow from our ORP/TRS retirement accounts?
A. No, not until you terminate.

Q. How long does it take to receive a refund of deposits from TRS 
     after termination?
A. Approximately 60 days.

Q. What age can I retire with full benefits?
A. Age 65 with five or more years of membership service credit or any 
     combination of age and service totaling 80, with at least five
     years of membership service credit.

Q. What percent of my salary is contributed toward my retirement (TRS 
     and ORP) and what does the employer contribute?
A. TRS – 6.4% by the employee and 6% by the employer.
     ORP – 6.65% by the employee and 6% by the employer.


Worker’s Compensation


Q. How do I file for Workers’ Comp?
A. Complete employee’s First Report of Injury and submit to the 
     Human Resources Management Department.


Vacation/Sick/FMLA Leave


Q. What do I put on my time sheet if: I worked on Saturday?
A. The exact amount of hours that you actually worked.

Q. If we get out early for a Holiday?
A. We still put 8 hours worked or 8 vacation or comp.

Q. Can I use Emergency Leave for the death of an Aunt or Uncle?
A. No.

Q. What kind of illness counts under the Sick Leave Pool?
A. Catastrophic Illness.

Q. Why can I not count Sick Leave if I take off to take care of my sick 
     grandchild, not living with me?
A. Aunt, Uncles, grandchildren, etc are not immediate family.
