ANNOUNCING GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
FROM THE
JESSE J. HAWTHORNE ENDOWMENT

THIS ENDOWMENT WAS ESTABLISHED WITH THE PROCEEDS FROM THE ANNUAL HAWTHORNE RELAYS.  GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS CAN BE AWARDED ANNUALLY.  INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS SHOULD COMPLETE A SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION AS OUTLINED IN THE POLICY BELOW:

  1. The recipient must meet all requirements for full admission to the Graduate School and additional departmental entrance requirements.
  2. Recipients of the scholarship shall be pursuing a degree in a graduate program or certificate program offered by the Department of Health and Human Performance.
  3. The intention of the scholarship will be to provide funds to assist in paying tuition and fees per semester.
  4. Interested students should write a letter of application to the Head of the Department of Health and Human Performance.  Letters of application must be accompanied by official transcripts, a personal resume and statement of professional goals, and the name and address of last employer.
  5. The Scholarship Committee will screen candidates and recommend the recipient(s) of the award(s) to the Director of the Mayo Foundation of East Texas on the campus of Texas A&M University - Commerce.
  6. The recipient must enroll for a minimum of six graduate hours during each summer session of attendance or nine graduate hours during a fall or spring semester.
  7. Undergraduate courses needed for an initial certification in health or in kinesiology & sports studies may be taken concurrently with graduate courses taken to apply to the graduate degree.
  8. A recipient may receive an award on successive semesters by remaining in good standing with the Department, the Graduate School, and the University.  To be able to continue on scholarship, the student must make a grade of B or better in all course work attempted and meet specific program requirements.  The award may be received for a maximum of four semesters, with two six-week summer sessions counted as one semester.
  9. The Scholarship Committee will review the progress of each recipient at the end of each semester to determine continued eligibility for the award.
  10. The Scholarship Committee will be constituted as follows: the Head of the Department of Health and Human Performance, two members of the graduate faculty in the Department of Health and Human Performance and one representative from the organizing committee of the Relays.

APPLICANTS SHOULD SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR
THE FALL SEMESTER BY September 5th,
THE SPRING SEMESTER BY DECEMBER 5th, AND
BY MAY 1st FOR THE SUMMER SEMESTER.
