Research Interests:

  • Applied physiology and adaptations to exercise training - cardiovascular, metabolic, hematological, and biochemical responses to acute or chronic exercise/training associated with physical performance and conditioning of athletes.
  • Coronary Heart Disease Risk Factors (CHD) and preventive interventions - CHD factors and reduction of risk factors through exercise and preventive measures and practices in children and older adults with special interest in lipid and lipoprotein biochemistry and metabolism.  Specifically, the activity and modulation of BNP and NT-proBNP and its role in heart failure in cardiac patients with moderate and severely reduced ejection fraction and reductions of these cardiac markers as a function of exercise and nutrition.
  • Exercise conditioning - the effects of exercise on the metabolic, nutritional and dietetic factors associated with lipids, lipoproteins, atherosclerosis, and nutrition in humans and animal models.
