MIS 128 - Business Computer Systems - 3 semester hours
This course is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to use a desktop computer with current important end-user software for communication and decision-making and to solve problems within an organizational environment. Includes coverage of software and hardware components, operating system concepts, information structures, and formal problem solving techniques. Includes supervised, structured laboratory exercises.
MIS 315 - Principles of Information Security - 3 semester hours
This is a discussion of the various technical and administrative aspects of Information Security and Assurance. This course provides the foundation for understanding the key issues associated with protecting information assets, determining the levels of protection and response to security incidents, and designing a consistent, reasonable information security system, with appropriate intrusion detection and reporting features. The purpose of the course is to provide the student with an overview of the field of Information Security and Assurance. Students will be exposed to the spectrum of Security activities, methods, methodologies, and procedures. Coverage will include inspection and protection of information assets, detection of and reaction to threats to information assets, and examination of pre-and post-incident procedures, technical and managerial responses and an overview of the Information Security Planning and Staffing functions. Prerequisite: Junior/Senior Standing
MIS 326 - Information Systems Technology Productivity - 3 semester hours
Students will extend ability to be efficient and effective in knowledge work by applying information technologies to problem situations and by design and use of small information systems for individuals and groups. Prerequisite: MIS 128 or CSci 126 and Junior standing.
MIS 328 - Project Management and Practice - 3 semester hours
Advanced IS majors operating as a high-performance team will engage in and complete the design and implementation of a significant information system. Project management, management of the IS function and systems integration will be components of the project experience. Prerequisites: MIS 128 or CSci 126 or and Junior standing.
MIS 415 - Policy and Administration in Information Security - 3 semester hours
This course involves detailed examinations of a systems-wide perspective of information security, beginning with a strategic planning process for security. It includes and examination of the policies, procedures and staffing functions necessary to organize an administrative ongoing security functions in the organization. Subjects include security practices, security architecture and models, continuity planning and disaster recovery planning. This course will enable the student to manage the security process in a wide array of business and industrial settings. They will learn to use the tools that will assist in the management process. It will also involve the development of the security implementation philosophy and the manner in which that philosophy should be applied in a variety of business settings. Prerequisites: MIS 315 or instructor approval, Junior/Senior standing.
MIS 422 - Web Based System Development - 3 semester hours
This course will provide the student with the necessary knowledge and skills necessary for the design, construction and implementation of an internet based commerce site. In addition legal, security, cultural, and policy issues will also be discussed. Prerequisites: MIS 128, 326
MIS 424 - Networking and Telecommunications - 3 semester hours
This course provides an in-depth knowledge of data communications and networking requirements including networking and telecommunication technologies, hardware, and software. Emphasis is upon the analysis and design of networking, cost-benefit analysis, and evaluation of connectivity options are also covered. Students learn to evaluate and select different communication options within an organization. Prerequisites: MIS 128, or CSci 126 and Junior standing.
MIS 426 - Management Information Systems - 3 semester hours
This course provides students with the understanding of managerial and organization needs to analyze, design, and implement an information system. The role of information services in management, including current professional practices and methodologies, will be covered along with the presentation of systems theory, decision theory, organizational models, types of information systems, information planning, and information systems development. Prerequisites: Senior Standing
MIS 502 - Business Information Systems - 3 semester hours
Applications of the computer to business organizations. A study of the capabilities and limitations of the computer through study of contemporary literature. Case studies of applications with particular emphasis on flow charting, systems analysis, and development of integrated computer systems in business. Prerequisite: MIS 128 or CSci 126, or consent of instructor.
MIS 524 - Networking and Telecommunications - 3 semester hours

MIS 526 - Data Base Management - 3 semester hours
This course provides a foundation for the design, implementation, and management of database systems. Students will study both design and implementation issues, however, database management issues will be emphasized. Management issues will include transaction management and concurrency control, distributed database management systems, and database administration. Prerequisites: MIS 128 or CSci 126 or consent of the instructor.
MIS 579 - Quantitative Methods - 3 semester hours
A study of statistical and mathematical techniques related to operations research. Topics include: inventory models, linear programming, game theory, queuing theory, network models, transportation models, assignment algorithms and simulation. Prerequisite: BA 302 or BA 501 or equivalent.
