Verification

A full one-third of the files submitted to the U.S. Department of Education may be chosen for the process called verification.

The process is completely random; however, if a student is chosen for verification, they will be required to provide their school with the requested documentation.

Schools must verify such items as number in household, number in college, as well as income and asset information. Usually, the school will send out a verification request form once they have identified that the student has been chosen. The required items depend upon the type of student.

If you are a Dependent student, you will need to submit...

• A transcript or copy of your last income tax return
• Your parent's transcript or copy of their last income tax return
• A Dependent Verification form

• A transcript or copy of your last income tax return
• An Independent Verification form

Complete the form and return it to our office along with the required documentation.
