Jim Mann Family Scholarship Endowment

Jim MannJames T. (Jim) Mann graduated from East Texas State University in 1966 receiving a BBA degree with a major in accounting. He joined the Mobil Corporation five days after graduation in their Dallas, Texas office as a junior accountant. After almost thirty years with Mobil, he retired in April 1996.

During Jim's Mobil career, he held a number of financial and general management positions. in 1980, he was named Assistant Area Executive-Africa with responsibility for West Africa. in 1984, he became Corporate Assistant Treasurer and in 1985 was named Vice President of Mobil South, Inc., a service company responsible for Mobil's Marketing and refining operations in the Far East, Latin America and Africa. In 1987, Jim was named President of Mobil Land Development Corporation and General Manager of Mobil's Corporate Real Estate portfolio. In 1990, he assumed the position of Vice President of planning for Mobil's Worldwide Marketing and Refining Division and then became Vice- President and General Manager of U.S. Marketing in 1992 for the same division. He was named a Mobil Corporation vice President of Public Affairs in 1993 with responsibility for both domestic and international public relations including Mobil's advocacy advertising and cultural programs, as well as government relations.

Jim has served in various civic and church related activities through the years, including program chairman for the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce, Finance Chairman and Financial Secretary for his church, and Vice Chairman for the Board of the Foundation at East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University-Commerce Foundation). He also served on various business councils, including the Marketing Committee and the Public Affairs Committee for the American Petroleum Institute.

Jim was born in Sherman, Texas, but moved to Edgewood, Texas at an early age. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1961. He is married to the former Gleith James of Wills Points, Texas and has three children and four grandchildren.
