TAMUC Minimum System Requirements for Installation
Desktop Computers - Windows XP
- Pentium III - 500 MHz
- 6 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 128 MB RAM
- SVGA Monitor (800x600 or higher resolution)
- On machines with slower CPUs (less than 1000 MHz), you will need 256MB
of RAM. If you are ordering a new machine, you should request at least
512MB of RAM. 1024MB is not uncommon.
Servers - Windows 2003
- Pentium III - 500 MHz
- 20 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 128 MB RAM; 512 recommended
- SVGA Monitor (800x600 or higher resolution)
Microsoft Office 2003
- Pentium II - 233 MHz or faster (not all programs will run on a machine slower
than 450 MHz)
- 4 Gigabyte Hard Drive (with 1 Gigabyte free space)
- 128 MB RAM
- CD or DVD drive (or network connection)
- SVGA Monitor (800x600 or higher resolution)
- Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or later, Windows XP or higher (Any machine
running Windows 2000 or XP should be able to run Office 2003)
The use of any older version of Windows is not encouraged. These requirements
remaining below are primarily for reference. Technology Services will not
install any operating system other than Windows XP or Server 2003 on a new computer.
Unless there is a specific need, Technology Services will not install Server 2003
on a desktop. Microsoft no longer provides primary support for any operating
systems other than Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
Minimum System Requirements for Windows 2000 Professional:
- Pentium II - 233 MHz
- 2 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 64 Megabytes of RAM
- Most machines currently running Windows 2000 should be capable of running
Windows XP.
Minimum System Requirements for Windows ME:
- Pentium I - 200 MHz
- 2 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 64 Megabytes of RAM
Minimum System Requirements for Windows 98:
- Pentium I - 133 MHz
- 1 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 32 Megabytes of RAM
Minimum System Requirements for Windows 95:
- Pentium I - 75 MHz
- 500 Megabyte Hard Drive
- 16 Megabytes of RAM
For smaller machines, we suggest Windows 3.11
Minimum System Requirements for Windows 2000 Server:
- Pentium II - 233 MHz
- 2 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 64 Megabyte RAM
Minimum System Requirements for Windows NT 4 Server:
- Pentium I - 200 MHz
- 1 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 32 Megabyte RAM
Minimum System Requirements for Windows NT 3.51 Server
- Pentium I - 75 MHz
- 500 Megabyte Hard Drive
- 16 Megabyte RAM
For smaller machines, we suggest you not install a server based Operating System.
Minimum System Requirements for Office XP:
- Pentium II - 200 MHz
- 4 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 64 Megabyte RAM
- Windows 98 or higher
Minimum System Requirements for Office 2000:
- Pentium I - 166 MHz
- 2 Gigabyte Hard Drive
- 32 Megabyte RAM
- Windows 98 or higher
Minimum System Requirements for Office 97:
- Pentium I - 75 MHz
- 500 Megabyte Hard Drive
- 16 Megabyte RAM
- Windows 95 or higher
For smaller machines, we suggest you install Office 95.
