Frequently Asked Questions

Network Resources

How do I set up my computer to access the department F (or T or P or other) drive?

You must Map a Drive.  To map a drive, follow the directions here.

I have a question not covered in this FAQ.

Information and help sheets are available for a variety of topics at the Technology Services front desk.

How can I access our departmental printer?

A networked printer may be hooked up directly to the network or it may be physically attached to a computer and shared on the network.

  • If it is hooked up directly to the network, you may be able to access the printer following the directions here.
  • If the computer is physically attached to a computer, the process is different.  You may be able to set up access following the directions here.

I have a folder on my department's network share.  How can I set it up so that I don't have to open the departmental folder before getting to my personal folder?

You can create a second mapped drive that goes directly to your folder.   You can follow the directions here.

Another person in my department needs to have access to my network folder or a file on my folder.  How can I make this happen?

While sharing files/folders on a network is a handy way of allowing more than one user to work on a document, there are also inherent risks.  For this reason, we need to document who has access to what resource.  In addition, since each person is responsible for protection of his or her data, it is necessary to document any requests for shared access.  Print the form found here and return it to Technology Services in room 156 of the Business Administration building.  We are unable to accept faxed applications.

I need access to another user's network folder.  How can I make this happen?

The same information mentioned in the above item applies here.  However, since that other person is the "owner" of the network folder/file, for obvious reasons that person will need be the one to ask for you to be given access.

All questions should be directed to Technology Services at 903-468-6000.
