Mission:

The College of Education and Human Services exists to promote and enhance the development of professional practitioners, researchers, and leaders who are exemplary and dedicated to enriching the quality of life for persons within and beyond our region.

Vision:

The College of Education & Human Services will be recognized nationally for our excellence in practice, programs, research, and services.

The College of Education & Human Services is one of the three colleges at Texas A&M University-Commerce. William L. Mayo founded the university as a teachers college in 1889. Entering the Texas A&M University System in 1996, the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) administers programs in six departments:

  • Counseling
  • Curriculum & Instruction
  • Educational Leadership
  • Health & Human Performance
  • Psychology & Special Education
  • Social Work

Within the college a wide variety of degree programs are offered including: bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. Students may seek certification as professional educators or degrees in other professions, such as mental health counseling, athletic training education and social Work. Texas A&M University-Commerce is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The United States Higher Education Act requires all states to report pass rates on statewide examinations for those seeking initial teacher certification. The college is proud to report a 97% pass rate on the TExES/ExCET examination.
