Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Endowment Scholarship Fund

The rules and procedures for awarding scholarships from the Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo Endowment Scholarship Fund administered by the
Department of Agricultural Sciences at Texas A&M University-Commerce
are as follows. At present no student may receive more than $1500
per academic year from this scholarship fund. The awards are restricted
to Texas residents only. Students who have a scholarship awarded
directly by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (FFA or 4-H) are not eligible
for the A&M-Commerce scholarship.
The following rules apply to all recipients of scholarships awarded
through the Department of Agricultural Sciences.

A minimum of 12 semester hours must be taken and completed each semester
in order to be eligible for any award.

Each semester that the scholarship is received, the student must enroll
until after the 12th Class Day in at least one, 3 to 4 semester hour agricultural
sciences course.

A cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and a semester minimum
grade point average of 3.0 must be maintained to remain eligible for consideration
for further awards.

Awards are made based on availability of funds in direct competition with
all Agricultural Sciences majors.
Freshman Awards
These scholarships are awarded during the Spring semester prior to the
student's entry into Texas A&M University-Commerce the following fall.
Applications are due by April 20. Awardees are generally beginning
college students, however, applicants who are concurrently enrolled in
high school and college are also eligible for these awards. Scholarship
awards are for the Fall semester only. Upon registration as a full-time
student majoring in a program in the Agricultural Sciences Department,
the funds will be disbursed to aid in defraying tuition, fees and/or textbooks.
If the awardee is successful in obtaining a minimum 3.0 grade point
average on at least 12 semester hours of academic courses at Texas A&M
University-Commerce, he/she will become eligible to compete with other
Agricultural Sciences majors for additional scholarship monies from the
Houston Endowment. Future awards after the first semester will be based
on the formula published for all continuing students.
Transfer Students and Non-scholarship A&M-Commerce students
Scholarship applications for transfer students and non-scholarship A&M-Commerce
students are due by June 15 of each year. Transcripts of all college
work should be submitted that reflect the latest semester that the student
has enrolled. These rules also apply to students presently attending
Texas A&M University-Commerce, but who are not presently on scholarship.
Minimum cumulative grade point average is 3.0. Transfer students
from Texas colleges and universities are eligible for these awards.
To the extent that funds are available the transfer award will be $300.
Continuing Students
Students who have previously been awarded a scholarship from this fund
will be eligible for continuing assistance if he/she meets all criteria
cited above (rules 1 through 4).
The following formula will apply to continuing students.
Award Amount= [(Number of grade points earned the previous semester
at Texas A&M University-Commerce minus 39) times $10]+ $250.00
