The agronomic research program is sponsored by Texas A&M University-Commerce, the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, and Cereal Crops Research, Inc. (C.C.R.I.), a non-profit organization of crop producers.

The project focuses on cotton research with an emphasis on short season production and management to maximize a net return to the grower. Each year the project harvests 2,000 to 3,000 replicated research plots.

In addition, the Cooperative Research Project has ongoing research on winter wheat. Research focuses on wheat varieties, soil fertility and weed control.
