A&M-C COEDS WIN AG SAFETY SCHOLARSHIPS

COMMERCE, Texas -- With wishes of "Merry Christmas and keep in touch
with us," two Tyler educators presented scholarships to Texas A&M
University-Commerce agriculture students.
Scribner, Neb. senior Maggie Pfeiffer Abernathy, Mesquite senior
Ashlee Daniels, and El Paso senior Yvette Pedroza all won $5,000
scholarships funded by the Southwest Center for Agricultural Health,
Injury Prevention, and Education.
Representing this organization at the scholarship presentation Dec.
13 at A&M-Commerce was Dr. J. Torey Nalbone, deputy director.
Dr. Helen E. Miner, director of the Lake Country Area Health
Education Center, was also present to congratulate the A&M-Commerce
coeds. Lake County AHEC was the administering agency for the pilot
scholarship program.
Abernathy and Daniels are both ag science and technology majors
seeking teaching certification in grades 6-12. Pedroza is an animal
science major with pre-vet emphasis.
Also winning scholarships were students from Kilgore College and
Trinity Valley Community College.
To apply for these new scholarships, ag science or pre-vet majors in
northeast Texas had to write essays and have completed an ag safety
project in a class or in the community.

SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS -- Three Texas A&M University-Commerce students
have won scholarships funded by the Southwest Center for
Agricultural Health, Injury Prevention, and Education in Tyler. From
