The Alumni Association was founded in 1890, just one year after the founding of the university. The first class of students to complete a course program organized what was then known as the Alumnal Association. Serving the former students of East Texas Normal College, East Texas State Normal College, East Texas State Teachers College, East Texas State College, East Texas State University, and Texas A&M University-Commerce, the association has developed into the multi-faceted, dynamic organization of today.

Spotlight On

Harry Power

Harry graduated from East Texas State University in 1973 with a BBA in marketing.  He spent the next 10 years in the metals industry as an outside sales rep and a sales manager.  He was employed with Reynolds Aluminum, Ducommon Metals, and Commercial Metals, all in the Dallas area.

When the petro-chemical industry and oil and gas industry faltered, he entered the medical field as a sales rep for orthopedic supplies.  For the past 25 years he has sold products and services related to the medical field.  He served in numerous positions including sales management, sales training, and regional vice president.  Currently he is Director of Marketing for Sleep Therapy Associates of Texas, a provider of diagnostic testing for sleep apnea and other sleep disorders.

Harry is a native Texas, born and reared in Marshall.  He came to ETSU in the fall of 1969 and his fondest memory is watching his beloved Lions win the1972 NAIA National Championship in football.

Harry is married to Georgia, who has two degrees from ETSU.  Sons Craig and Kyle are also graduates of A&M-Commerce.  He and Georgia have lived in Forney since 1976 and are members of the First United Methodist Church of Forney.

Harry has served on the Alumni Board since 1995 and looks forward to great things happening for ol’ ET in the coming years.
