University Studies
Texas A&M University-Commerce has a core of classes known as University Studies. Students must take these courses regardless of their major. The purpose is to contribute to a well-rounded educated person with knowledge in many areas and an appreciation of many aspects of education. All students must take the particular courses outlined. The one exception will be science majors who will follow the suggested sciences listed in the catalog for that particular major.
Transfer Students : Texas A&M University Commerce will accept all classes listed as the core curriculum from the transferring college. However if a course in a major has a pre-requisite of a particular core course then it must be taken (i.e., Math 350 requires college algebra)
English
English 101 and 102
THEA scores may require Eng 100 before Eng 101
English 101 must be taken before 102
Math
Math 141, 175 or 179
THEA scores may require developmental math
before college level math.
Some students will be able to go directly into higher
level Math 142 or Math 191.
Speech
All students must complete one of the following speech
courses:
Spc 111 - General liberal arts speech
Spc 245 - Business and professional speaking
Spc 348 - Speech for teachers
Sciences
All students must take two of the following science
courses, all of which include a lab.

Students must take all 4 of the following courses. It is
recommended to take only one per semester until all are
completed.

One course is required and must be taken after reaching
junior standing (60 or more hours).
Kinesiology
Students must complete two 1-hour Kinesiology activity credits
or one 2-hour Wellness class. Those not majoring in
Physical Education must select from the courses in the
catalog. Students majoring in Kinesiology need to select
from those listed in the catalog as Kinesiology activities for
majors. Non-Kinesiology majors may take the same
activity course twice for credit. Marching band may be
counted for one credit hour of Kinesiology activity.
